At the January meeting of Sutton Coldfield Circle members and guests heard a very informative and interesting presentation on the activities of Royal Sutton Coldfield Town Council by its leader Councillor Simon Ward. He began by outlining the background to the formation of the council in March 2016 with 70% of the town’s population in favour of its creation. It is one of the largest town councils in the U.K He outlined the council’s activities which included the development of a strategic plan after public consultation and achievements to date including a devolution deal to transfer thirteen open spaces from Birmingham City Council to the town council, the development of a town ranger service, transformation of the Cottage Hospital into an adults help hub for the town’s over 65’s and the town centre redevelopment scheme which would have retail leisure and housing elements. He also gave details of how the council had secured government grant schemes including £20 million from the Towns Fund and £25 million for the town’s Gateway scheme.
The presentation provided many questions from members and guests. A most successful and interesting evening.
